Epson Reports Administrative Oversight under the Japanese Radio Act for Industrial Facilities Emitting Radio Waves

- TOKYO, Japan, July 15, 2021 -

Seiko Epson Corporation (TSE: 6724, "Epson") announced that it had failed to submit the necessary applications under the Japanese Radio Act for certain component cleaning equipment it had installed in the past including for industrial facilities emitting radio waves. An internal investigation covering all Epson plants and affiliated companies revealed that equipment emitting radio waves installed in various sites mainly before 2006 had been subject to this administrative oversight.

Epson has reported the situation to the Bureau of Telecommunications of the Japanese Ministry of Internal Affairs & Communications, will complete the necessary applications under the Radio Act, and will cease operating the equipment until the required procedures are completed. As a result of this and despite already suffering delays due to strong demand, we expect further delays in production of certain semiconductors for our Microdevices Operations Division at our Sakata Plant and Tohoku Epson Corp.

This situation will not impact product quality.
We deeply apologize for this situation and the inconvenience caused to our customers. We will of course implement every measure we can to prevent a reoccurrence.
