Balancing Work and Family
At Epson, we strive to create an environment where employees can work with a sense of purpose, adapt to changes in their life stages, and continue to thrive and contribute to value creation. To achieve this, we are committed to developing flexible work styles and support systems, as well as fostering understanding and a positive workplace culture through training and information sharing. This page introduces some of our key initiatives.
Our Initiatives
Introducing Internal Role Models
Many employees who are balancing work with childcare or caregiving responsibilities feel that they lack relatable role models. Because these topics are deeply personal, they can be difficult to discuss openly in the workplace.
To support employees in envisioning their own unique careers, Epson features real-life examples of employees successfully balancing work and personal responsibilities through the "Work-in-Life" series. Told in an interview format, these stories highlight how employees utilize support systems, manage their schedules, and find creative solutions to the challenges that confront them. By sharing these experiences, we aim to inspire others and encourage positive action.
Parenting Seminars
Since 2021, Epson has continuously held parenting seminars to support employees who are balancing work and childcare. These seminars provide current and future parents with information on how to utilize available systems. They also review the different work arrangement options and emphasize the importance of communication with partners.
A key message is that fathers have equal responsibility for childcare, and couples are encouraged to start their parenting journey together. Participants also have opportunities to share their challenges and solutions, leading to new insights and positive changes.
Training for Balancing Caregiving and Work
Caregiving is a life event that can happen to anyone, often unexpectedly. Epson believes that helping employees prepare for such eventualities is essential for creating a workplace where people can feel easy about continuing to work.
In fiscal 2023, we conducted training for managers to deepen their understanding of caregiving and foster a supportive workplace culture.
In fiscal 2024, we invited representatives from local community support centers to hold seminars, providing employees with practical knowledge about caregiving.
Leave Systems for Fertility Treatment
Epson recognizes that balancing work and fertility treatment involves significant mental, physical, and logistical challenges. To support employees, we have introduced leave and absence programs for fertility treatment and are working to create an environment where these systems are easy to use.
Believing that treatment is for couples rather than individuals, we have made these programs available to employees whose spouses are undergoing treatment.
